Throw the Ultimate Holiday Costume Party

October may be long gone, but if you’re not ready to say goodbye to Halloween quite yet, why not take your favorite costumed celebration into the holiday season with a holiday costume party?! We’re talking a room full of sexy Santas, wreckless Rudolphs, and a few Cousin Eddies breaking it down on the dance floor.

As always, you should be prepared for some Grinches who don’t partake in the dress-up fun – so have a gag costume ready as “punishment” for killing the yuletide vibe!

So how do you throw the ultimate holiday costume party? It's all in the details!

The Invitations

Start with the invitations. Be sure to highlight clearly that it’s a costume party - it’s not nearly as fun if only half the guests participate!

Why not include some costume inspiration? Include some basic ideas like movie characters or Christmas icons to get the creativity flowing!

The Decorations

Next up is decor. Here’s your chance to really impress guests – you can stick with a color theme like red and white or just incorporate general holiday elements like snow, santa hats, gingerbread. Here are some more of our favorite holiday theme party ideas.

Or, for a wow-worthy presentation, base your decorations around your favorite holiday-themed movie like this Whoville inspired Christmas party from Indulgy.

You’ll need a dazzling backdrop to snap all the creative costumes. This glitzy fish scale back drop is made using brown paper for an inexpensive craft that will really take your party to another level. Click here for the how-to!

The Menu

We're firm believers in creating themed food to fit with the decor of our party - especially during the holiday season! Guests will ooh and aah when Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer stops by in cookie form. Whether you choose to stick with traditional holiday decor or opt for a movie themed event, be sure to tailor your menu to fit the event.

It’s not a party until you pull out the signature cocktails! Our Santa’s Hat cocktail is so cute and festive, and will match your sexy santas perfectly.

Serve your holiday cocktails on our DIY Chalkboard Serving Tray. Personalize it with holiday greetings or quotes from your favorite Christmas movies like “you’ll shoot your eye out”!

The Entertainment

Besides the holiday party playlist and streaming your favorite holiday movie scenes back to back, get the fun rolling with our Christmas Movie trivia game. Those dressed in costume will really get into the spirit when they're quoting Ralphie dressed in his infamous onesie.

What’s a costume party without a costume contest? Include several categories such as funniest, most creative, and most accurate – leave it up to the guests to decide who wins! Be sure to give out creative themed trophies to the winners – bonus points if they’re shaped like the Christmas Story leg lamp!
