Teacher in Iran Shaves Head to Support Bullied Student

Being a 8 years old is tough in general. Kids can be cruel, and bullies seem to be everywhere. But in Iran, 8-year-old Mahan Rahimi had to battle not only a mystery illness that rendered him bald, but also bullies who made fun of him for losing his hair.

Luckily for Mahan, his teacher Ali Mohammadian, 45, stepped in and faced the bullies with more than just his words. Ali shaved his head bald to match little Mahan's, and inspired the rest of the classroom to do the same.In no time, Ali's classroom was filled with baldheaded students who wanted show their support for their fellow student.

"I'm so happy that this has touched many hearts and people reacted enormously positive," the teacher told The Guardian. "Everyone in the school now wants to shave their head."

Ali first grabbed national attention for his student when he snapped a pic with the 8-year-old and posted it to his Facebook page.

"Our heads are sensitive to hair," the teacher captioned the photo. "Mahan had become isolated after going bald, smile had disappeared from his face and I was concerned about his class performance. That's why I thought about shaving my head to get him back on track."

Soon, the photo was shared with hundreds of people, and caught the attention of Iran's president Hassan Rouhani. Before long, the story -- and the heartfelt message behind it -- went viral.

Although doctors still aren't positive of the exact nature of Mahan's disease, they believe it is a problem with his immune system. But there's no doubt that his teacher's and classmates' support are helping him feel a little less alone throughout this scary process.

We're celebrating Mahan, Ali and his students who were brave enough to shave their heads in support of their sick classmate. We hope this act of selflessness inspires others to support their peers in time of need.
