Kid-Friendly Patriotic S'mores Activity

Let the kids create patriotic s'mores for your 4th of July or Memorial Day party with this kid-friendly Flag S'mores activity!

No one can resist a s’more, especially when the 4th of July festivities are underway and the fireworks are exploding overhead. The only problem is, not everyone has the time, the location, or the patience to offer up a traditional campground fire for roasting the marshmallows. But don’t worry—that doesn’t mean you have to give up on these fun fireside treats all together! By putting a no-fire twist on this classic summer favorite, you can still offer a s’mores-like dessert and keep you little guests happy at the same time, with little to no supervision! Children will love this DIY craft that ends with a sweet dessert they get to eat off of a stick.

Here’s the best part about this activity for kids: By spreading a thin layer of frosting on a large marshmallow, every boy or girl will be able to customize his or her “s’more” by adding yummy and festive-looking ingredients. Crushed cinnamon cereal gives these treats that traditional graham cracker crunch, while sprinkles can add a nice red, white or blue touch for the 4th of July holiday.

One quick note: We use white frosting here, but if you’re a s’mores purist who thinks this snack needs some chocolate, you could always consider offering up chocolate frosting or sprinkles for the kids to add to their marshmallows as well.

1 bag of large marshmallows

1 tumbler of blue sprinkles (may also consider red, white, and blue)

1 box of cinnamon square cereal, broken into crumbs

3 cups of white frosting

A twig or stick for each guest

Popsicle sticks for spreading the frosting

Step 1: Place the marshmallow on a stick.

Step 2: Top the marshmallow with a thin layer of white frosting.

Step 3: Sprinkle the crumbs of the cinnamon cereal across the side of the marshmallow.

Step 4: Top with blue sprinkles.
