Let it Shine Movie Party for the Kids

Celebrate the start of summer with a movie premiere party and sleepover for the much anticipated Disney Channel’s Original Movie Let It Shine starring Tyler James Williams (Everybody Loves Chris), Coco Jones (Radio Disney’s N.B.T.), Trevor Jackson (Lab Rats), and Brandon Mychal Smith (So Random!).

We are looking forward to another original new Disney channel movie filled with up and coming stars, fantastic music and positive messages for the kids. We expect to enjoy it as much as Disney Channel’s High School Musical and Camp Rock! So gather the friends and be the first to see it and celebrate it in style.

About Let It Shine

The movie follows Cyrus DeBarge, a 16-year-old aspiring musician who rocks a rhyme, but doesn't have enough confidence to share his talent on stage. When he and his best friend, Kris McDuffy, enter a songwriting contest, Cyrus pens a rap about his longtime crush, Roxanne Andrews, and his feelings for her.

Kris is mistakenly named the winner of the contest, but because he's afraid to stand in the spotlight, Cyrus allows his friend to take the credit. With that though, Roxanne begins to fall for Kris and Cyrus is left to watch from the sidelines.

Host a Premiere Party & Sleepover

Let It Shine premieres Friday, June 15th at 8/7c on The Disney Channel. Invite friends over for a night in complete with fun party ideas and treats.

Because a lot of your guests may not be familiar with the Let It Shine movie theme or plot, the invitation is an opportunity to give some hints about what to expect. We suggest the DIY approach. Keep it simple with a little rap of your own via phone or print one of our custom invitation printables to send to friends ahead of time.

Here's an example:

Let it Shine is finally here!
I want you to know
you’re invited
to watch the show!

So, please join us
to watch this premiere,
we really would like for
you to be here.

The movie starts at eight,
but meet us at six,
so we can eat snacks
and take lots of pics!

Got a better rhyme? We bet you do, so share it in the comments section below!

Let It Shine Premiere Party Foods

Like any great movie premiere, celebrate the launch with bite-sized treats and movie theatre favorites. While you can keep it super easy by heading to the super market or ordering out, consider these recipes to make at home. Our Let It Shine themed printable toppers will add a festive touch to any of the below!

Cotton Candy Brownies - Boxed brownies topped with cotton candy flavored frosting is a fun, colorful and sweet treat everyone will love.

Homemade Pretzels - Soft pretzels are just too good to resist. Skip the freezer aisle and make your own, though - so much more yummy!

Gluten-Free Banana Pops - These are gluten-free, but totally scrumptious, too. Top them with colored sprinkles in your theme colors.

Pink Lemonade Cupcakes - They'll fit your theme and party look, but they're totally delicious to boot! Top with themed party printables.

Donut Kebabs - Store bought mini donuts make for tasty dessert kebabs! Top ends with our printables, too!

Popcorn Bags - No movie premiere is a success without popcorn. Order a tin from the popcorn factory so you have a selection of different flavors and make easy themed popcorn bags for everyone to enjoy mess-free.

Let It Shine Decor: Dress Your Party and Guests

This theme party at home doesn't have to be super glamorous, but consider these ideas to add something special and festive to the mix.

Consider a hot pink, purple and turquoise palette to pick up colors used heavily in the movie. Try covering sofas and seats with slip covers in those colors, pulling pillow from other rooms in the same scheme into the viewing room and use some of our favorite DIY party ideas like banners and jeweled crafts to dress up the space.

Gets copies of magazines, pull out posters of stars of the movie and hang up around the room to imitate movie posters found at theaters. (Tyler James Williams, Coco Jones, Trevor Jackson, and Brandon Michael Smith are the stars!)

Have guests dress up like a pop star with favorite sequined skirts and glitter accessories. Before the movie premieres consider doing hair and makeup for a mock photo shoot.

One of the great things about Let It Shine is the poweful message found in it. Make signs with the movie’s message and hang: The Truth is in the Music. The Power is in the Truth.
