10 Simple Ways to Make Her Valentine's Day the Most Special Yet

Flowers, chocolate and jewelry are all nice gifts to give your wife or girlfriend on Valentine's Day. But sometimes, it's the small gestures -- not the presents -- that mean the most to her.

Let her know throughout the day that you love and appreciate her with these 10 small, but impactful, ideas. They won't take much time or money, but these gestures are sure to make for the best Valentine's Day yet.

1. Breakfast in Bed

This tradition typically reserved for Mother's Day also has the same impact on Valentine's Day. There's nothing a woman appreciates more than feeling catered to every once in a while. Even if it's just a cup of coffee and a bagel, letting her relax for a few extra minutes in the morning will set the tone for a great day for her.

2. Write a Handwritten Love Note

This tried and true romantic gesture might seem cheesy and old-fashioned, but trust us -- jotting down some sweet words to your lady and slipping the note into her purse will be such a lovely and unexpected surprise when she finally discovers the love note.

3. Create a Love-Themed Playlist for her Smartphone or iPod

The 21st-Century version of a mixed tape. Make a new playlist of all of her favorite love songs, and the ones that remind you of her. She'll love listening to the romantic tunes on her way to work, and may even be pleasantly shocked by what songs remind you of her. If you want to be really old school, burn them onto a CD for her car.

4. Make the Bed & Clean the House

Throwing the comforter over the bed, picking up the living room and unloading the dishwasher are all minor gestures that really add up. Trust us -- she'll notice that you took the time to clean up, and she'll wonder how she got so lucky.

5. Make her Lunch

Take a few extra minutes in the morning to pack a lunch for her so she doesn't have to worry about it. And if you don't have time or groceries for that, surprise her at her work with some takeout during her lunch break.

6. Send a Sweet Online Card

Even if you've sent flowers and a paper card, an online card is like a special delivery straight to her inbox. A digital card is the time to let her know that you've been thinking about her throughout the day.

7. Check off that 'Honey-Do' List

Have you been putting off changing the lightbulbs in the bathroom or hanging those shelves in the laundry room? Now is the time to check those tasks off that perpetual to-do list, and she'll be grateful for it.

8. Have her Favorite Cocktail or Bottle of Wine Ready After Work

If you can get home before she does, make sure she can unwind as soon as she walks in the door. Having her favorite adult beverage ready for her reminds her that you not only know her so well, but also want her to relax and enjoy herself.

9. Surprise her with a Small Non-Cliche Gift

Maybe there's a book she's been planning on reading, or she's hinted at wanting a Netflix account. Surprising her with something she really wants and needs, rather than the standard

10. Draw her a Bath

At the end of a long day, sometimes nothing sounds better than a hot bubble bath. That evening, run the tub and fill it with delicious-smelling bath oils and bubbles. Not only is it sweet and romantic, it will most likely lead to even more -- ahem -- fun that night.
