How to Plan a Gingerbread House Decorating Party

Throw an unforgettable holiday party this season for the kids and use the classic edible holiday craft to inspire the celebration. Invite your child's friends over and host an easy, yet festive and fun gingerbread house party.

This holiday theme party is great for older kids and tweens since it requries a bit of skill to keep the house together, but you can always turn to gingerbread men for a younger crowd.

Sweet Invite!

Send out invitations well in advance and make sure moms, dads or other caregivers know there's a much higher chance of a mess added to the mix. We're fans of this fun gingerbread house invitation.

Gingerbread House Decorating Party Decor

Once you've done that, think about the decor for your party. While there's something magical about bringing the winter wonderland to life indoors with fresh tree garlands, for a kids gingerbread house decorating party you may want to go with something a bit more colorful. This easy DIY ornament wreath can be customized to fit your holiday invitation perfectly!

As the rest of your home will most likely be decorated for the holiday season already, don't fuss too much over the rest of your party decorations. Instead, get your party supplies together so you can set up a decorating station.

Think Outside the Cookie House

Gingerbread dough is easy enough to make ahead of time, but if you're in a time crunch or you know the kids aren't big fans of the cookie recipe and it'll probably just go to waste, consider taking an alternative route.

We love the idea of decorating wooden birdhouses with your usual gingerbread house decorations like candy and sweet cement. It's an easy enough craft that's a whole lot less wasteful if the kids aren't planning on eating the treats they make.

Don't Forget the Gingerbread Men!

The inhabitants of this sweet abode are just as important - lay out a plate of gingerbread men cookies like these from The Popcorn Factory nearby your gingerbread house building station. Crafters can snack while building their homes and use the leftover gingerbread men to add an element of realism to the design.

Gingerbread Decorating Party Menu

Keep the sweets on your party menu to a minimum. The kids will be snacking away at the supplies, so have healthier holiday eats on hand.

Strawberry grilled cheese sandwiches are as festive looking as they are delicious and while the ingredients may not be those the kids would eat on just any day, we bet they'll enjoy this tasty treat. If they're sticklers, replace the goat cheese with cream cheese.

Milk is a must for this holiday party, but did you know you could dress them up for the occasion with just a bit of food coloring? Whether you go red or green it's sure to liven up their festivities.

Send Kids Home with a Sweet Treat

On top of letting the kids take home their gingerbread creations, make sure you send them on their way with a sweet favor to remember the party by. Mason jars are everywhere this season and they make a great alternative the traditional party bag.

These clear canning jars are simple in design and will add to the festivity in your space when displayed. Filled with a selection of candies to replicate the ginger birdhouse centerpiece above, and then topped with decorative fabric, these party jars give your guests a party favor that allows them to get started on another gingerbread creation at home!

Don't Forget the Adults!

Thanks parents for bringing their children over and for their assitance with these creative DIY Gingerbread Man earrings - these are so simple to make and you can make several dozen for under $10! Talk about a sweet ending to the day.
