5 Must-Watch Flicks for a Mother's Day Movie Watch Party

Celebrating mom on Mother's Day doesn't have to be an extravagent, over-the-top affair. In fact, moms love nothing more than spending quality time with their family, which is why throwing a movie day or night is the perfect way to bond and spend time together.

Spend the day (or night) all cozied up together watching some classic films together. Get inspired by watching one of these films that illustrate the precious relationship between a mom and her kids, or a family-friendly flick that everyone will love.

Serve up some delicious movie theater-themed snacks, pile on the blankets and pillows, and kick back. As a bonding experience, take some candid photos and discuss which parts of the movie are your favorite. There's nothing better than spending some quality time as a family together on Mother's Day! Some movie ideas:

1.  Brave

Genuinely a family film that each generation can embrace, and captures the spirit of independence.  Set up a family film cart and host an intermission complete with popcorn, brightly-decorated cupcakes with a Brave theme and a large pitcher of family fruit punch.

2.  The Guilt Trip

The perfect film for mature audiences that tells the story of an overbearing mother and her son as they drive cross-country in a comic path that nearly every mother and son can relate to. Feast on a dinner of steak and her favorite cocktail before enjoying the film, and if you are feeling adventurous, serve her up a 50-ounce steak and see how much she can handle.

3.   Stepmom

For anyone who has a mixed family or has ever asked the question, “How will I leave a legacy for my children?” this movie is emotional, funny and tugs at the heart in a way that everyone can relate to. Tie in the movie theme by decorating your movie buffet with pictures of your family, and having a camera on hand to capture pictures from the movie viewing to keep the family memories theme running throughout the night.

4.  Mamma Mia

Truly an uplifting, feel good movie that tells the story of a mother-daughter relationship, and the journey into a daughter-father relationship, with the added bonus of a love story. Full of toe-tapping good music, great storytelling and a feel-good vibe, this film is a great for the tween to mature viewer. Ask everyone to come dressed for the beach, serve up fun beach-themed drinks and snacks, and then finish the viewing off with an Abba dance party that everyone will be in the mood to enjoy.

5.  Post Cards From the Edge

The ideal movie for mature audiences that have a few stories to tell about the roller coaster ride that is the mother/daughter relationship.  Full of comedy and heartfelt moments, this movie is best enjoyed with a bottle of sparking wine, a feast of cheese and crackers, and an hour to spare afterwards to talk about what they love about their mothe-/daughter relationship.
