Paleo has become a big buzzword in the health and fitness world, as has eating clean. Both are basically the same principle, and neither have to mean eating nothing but boring salads and raw veggies at every meal.

In fact, now that summer is right around the corner, summer grilling and barbecues are the perfect time to whip up something paleo-friendly. If you're hosting a summer barbecue, or just looking to grill up something healthy this summer, check out some of our favorite sneakily healthy paleo recipes. 

With a huge array of options with grilling veggies, marinating meats and getting creative with sweet potatoes and cauliflower, these recipes are perfect for everyone. Just because you're grilling out doesn't mean you have to serve or eat unhealthy food. Take a look at some of our favorites, and keep your annoying paleo friends happy. 


BBQ Jamaican Jerk Chicken

The paleo diet is also known as the caveman diet, basically based on the foods cavemen used to eat. Mainly, meat and vegetables. (Cavemen also didn't have charcoal grills and lighter fluid, so bear with me). But this savory Jamaican Jerk Chicken from BBQTV.com is a full-flavor option for all of your guests. The dry rub is a mix of spices, including paprika, clove and onion powder, and all you need to do is just throw the chicken on the grill. Delicious! 


Raw Zucchini 'Pasta' Salad

If you thought you had to give up all things pasta in the name of paleo, then think again. Zucchini lends itself perfectly to be made into zucchini noodles, or "zoodles," with the help of a noodle spiralizer, or a mandolin. Make some zoodles, and then make this Raw Zucchini 'Pasta' Salad from Door-to-Door Organics. It's light and full of crunch; a great substitute for the traditional pasta salad.


BBQ Pulled Pork

Traditional barbecue dishes of mac and cheese, baked beans and cornbread are typically unhealthy. But this BBQ Pulled Pork recipe from The Healthy Foodie is made with paleo-friendly BBQ sauce, so you don't have to miss out on your favorite BBQ meals. 


Grilled Moroccan Vegetable Skewers

Cavemen may not have had grills, but they had veggies. These Moroccan Vegetable Skewers from Natasha's Kitchen are surprisingly simple to make. With some spices and a grill skewer, you have very healthy and delicious side dish. 


Grilled Brussels Sprouts with Bacon

Where have Brussels sprouts been all my life? Seriously, my parents were keeping this tasty vegetable for me (in exchange for lots and lots of broccoli) because my dad hated Brussels sprouts. Baked Sweet Potato Chips

You can't have an outdoor grilling party without potato chips. For a healthier recipe, make them yourself in the oven and use sweet potatoes, which are chock full of fiber and Vitamin A. This recipe from Wishful Chef will make you never want to pick up a bag of Lay's again. 


Sweet Potato Salad

Another delicious sweet potato recipe is this Sweet Potato Salad from BBC Good Food. After baking the sweet potato chunks, toss in a dressing made with chives, onions and vinegar. It's a filling side dish that can be served hot or cold. 


Gluten-Free 'Potato' Salad

Potato salad is a staple at BBQs and outdoor summer parties. But the traditional recipe made with mayo and mustard isn't exactly healthy.
