Party Boosters to Fit Any Budget

If I had to hone in on one specific thing, my go-to, when trying to add a little extra “something” to my events, it would have to be adding an activity.

You see, I’ve learned that not everyone feels totally at home at an event, not everyone wants to chat up total strangers, not everyone feels at ease starting an impromptu line dance or initiating a game of charades… basically, not everyone is a spaz like me.

So, by adding a great activity like a photo booth or a make-your-own-martini bar you give guests something to do and create memories that they’ll be talking about for years.

Obviously, anytime you add elements to your event you’re also adding costs. But if you get creative you can help break the ice, without breaking the bank. Here are some ideas.

Party Boost: Make Your Own Photo Booth

Vintage photo booths have become all the rage at every event. They’re a great way to document your party guests and people love seeing how many silly pictures they can take. Rather than renting a booth (which can be several thousand dollars) why not create your own? Simply find a good backdrop at your party location, add some props, a digital camera and a photo printer and you’ll get the same affect. You can even enlist a friend to be the designated photographer and make sure all the best memories are captured!

Party Boost: Creative Sign In

Wedding sign in books are always a great way to see who was in attendance but gone are the days of simply writing your name. At our weddings we love to encourage guests inner-scrapbooker. We’ll supply loads of stamps, stickers and embellishment and give each guest a page to decorate during cocktail hour. It’s so fun to see what guests come up with (especially over cocktails!) and the bride and groom will forever have a scrapbook full of their friend’s creations.

Party Boost: Hired Entertainment

I know it seems silly, but Fortune Tellers, Palm Readers, Hired Dancers, etc are always a huge hit and aren’t very expensive. Even if a guest thinks it’s bogus they still end up there by the end of the evening. We’ve also had real success with ballroom or flamenco dancers who perform one dance as a surprise during the course of the evening. Call a local dance studio and get a good price. A couple hundred bucks for a big wow factor is well worth it!

Party Boost: A Live Band

Many wedding clients dream of having a big band perform at their reception and then are disheartened when they find out how expensive it can be. When this is the case I encourage them to hire a small trio for the ceremony or the cocktail hour. They’ll still give guests the enjoyment of live music without the expense of an orchestra.
