Personalized Paper Christmas Stocking Craft for Kids

Personalize Christmas stockings and create fun memories with your child.

The first holiday decoration to go up in our house is always our Christmas stockings. My kids just can’t wait to hang them up the day after Thanksgiving and can’t wait to rip them down on Christmas morning.

In honor of that Christmastime tradition, I have my kids make their own personalized stockings out of paper and some craft supplies. Over the years it's been interesting to see the evolution of these Christmas crafts.

Have the kids outline and cut out a basic stocking shape out of red paper or felt like we used, then glue a white textured craft fabric to the top. Cotton balls work just as well! Once complete, personalize it!

Monogrammed Stockings

Most preschoolers cannot yet read or recognize their name but most can recognize their first initial. Let your child personalize his/her stocking with their favorite letter of the alphabet.

Glue stick

Paper plate

Print out your child’s first initial from your computer. Using scissors cut the initial out first.

Allow your child to apply glue all over the initial, then place the initial on the paper plate.

Let your child pour the glitter all over the initial. Shake extra glitter back onto the plate. (Pour leftover glitter back into glitter jar for next project!)

Let the glitter and glue dry for about 10 minutes, then apply glue to the back of the initial and glue it onto the stocking.

Picture Perfect

Let your kids choose a recent photo of themselves as well as a scrap of fabric from the craft box. Cut the fabric into a manageable square, then glue the photo on top of it.

Attach the photo and the fabric to the paper stocking for a Christmas craft you can look at for years - they also make for a great Christmas present for grandparents!
