Personalized Popcorn Tin for Father's Day

My husband loves watching movies, and these days we watch nearly all our movies at home. Having a large tub of popcorn at hand seems appropriate for such occasion, and it's a gift that the whole family gets to enjoy. For Father's Day, I thought it would be fun to take a plain popcorn tin and add some fun touches of personalized sweet messages!

Make the tin extra special by decorating it specifically for dad. The more unique and personalized the better, so the dad in your life knows he's truly one-of-a-kind. You can cover it with family photos or with words that express how much your family appreciates him.

Start with a solid-colored tin ( I used this festive red tin from The Popcorn Factory) and affix a picture to the top. I used white duck tape to create stripes all around the tin, and used a permanent marker to list all of our favorite things about dad. I think white stripes give it a retro look and the personal touches of the photos and the attributes made it a popcorn tin that we were all glad to have around.

  • Popcorn tin
  • Family photo
  • White duck tape
  • Sharpie permanent marker
  • Other stickers (optional)
  • Large ribbon

Step 1: Start with a solid-colored popcorn tin, and make sure the surface is clean and dry. I got mine customized with a photo from The Popcorn Factory, but you can take any family photo and affix it to the top using double-sided tape, Mod Podge or a glue stick.

Step 2: Use the white duck tape to create stripes around the tin. Not only does this give it a retro look, it also creates a canvas to write sweet notes to dad.

Step 3: Using a permanent marker, write notes and messages to let dad know how special he is! I listed all of the things we love about my husband.

Step 4: Tie a ribbon around the tin, secure with a bow on top, and give to dad as a special Father's Day gift!
