Pink and Blue Party: A Baby Gender Reveal

A baby gender reveal party gets your closest friends and family together for some big news. Is it a baby a boy or a girl?

Is it a boy or is it a girl? Often times, an expectant couple will find out the sex of their baby during an ultrasound appointment and then notify family and friends of the results with a phone call, or even a Facebook post.

Steer clear of sharing your good news simply - here's a very special way to reveal the gender of the baby and to celebrate the news with close friends and family - it includes some friendly boy-girl competition, cupcakes and gumballs!

How to Host a Baby Gender Reveal Party

Depending on how you feel as the parents-to-be, you might be in on the surprise or you might revel in the reveal along with your guests. Whether you or a friend plan this celebration, here's what you need to know on how to organize the party.

The Doctor

During the ultrasound appointment, the expectant couple will ask the doctor to not reveal the baby's gender, but rather to place the results in an envelope--and seal it tightly.

The Baker and Secret-Keeper

You will need to designate one person who will be allowed to open the sealed envelope and be willing to bake cupcakes with gumballs inserted in the center--a pink gumball for a girl and a blue gumball for a boy. They must keep this information top secret!

Invitations

Get a guest list from the expectant couple and then create invitations to a "Pink and Blue Party." Be sure to ask guests to make a prediction about the sex of the baby and wear either pink or blue to the party based on their guess.

Menu Ideas

Consider a morning brunch with quiche or strata, pastries, and fresh fruit. Or a weekend afternoon with a light lunch of deli sandwiches and salads. We’re fans of these recipes:

Sweet Lemon Bread

Pea & Parmesan Frittata

Finger Sandwiches

French Toast Casserole

Baby Reveal Party Decorations

The big surprise at dessert is really what a baby gender reveal party is all about so don't worry too much about decorations like you would with a shower.

Keep things simple and use blue and pink in your space wherever you can. Streamers, balloons and baby themed items like teddy bears are perfect.

Pink and blue ribbons can be used throughout the house and on the table. The table centerpiece might include a pink and blue teddy bear and containers of fresh flowers.

Gifts wrapped in pink and blue will also add to the party theme. Set the table with every-other place-setting in pink or blue. Add pink and blue party favors to the table if you plan to pass any out.

Pink and Blue Baby Gender Reveal Party Games

We played these games at a baby gender reveal party we had, but they're also a fun option for any baby shower. Trivia is ideal for sitting down, but our baby supply toss is a great way to get guests on their feet and competing for a prize!

After receiving your invite to this baby gender reveal party, guests will know they’re expected to dress in either pink or blue – depending on their prediction for what the baby’s sex will be.

Those guests wearing pink are assigned to the Pink Team, while those clad in blue will be on the Blue Team .  The competition between the Pink and Blue Team helps build the excitement for the big reveal moment of the baby's gender around dessert time! Be sure to have prizes on hand to award to the team members with the most points.

Play Color Trivia

Prepare some written trivia questions about the colors pink and blue. Type the pink questions on pink paper, blue questions on blue paper.

Here's a sample:

For Pink Things - "Scissors with serrated edges are called ____________."

For Blue Things - "The artist most associated with the blue period is ________."

Baby Supply Toss

Supplies

pink and blue washcloths

baby towels, socks, onesies, etc.
two wash baskets

Directions

Tightly roll some new pink and blue baby supplies and tie with pink and blue ribbon.

Team players stand at a designated distance from a basket and toss the rolled-up washcloths into the basket.

One point is scored for each washcloth that lands in the basket. You can make this time sensitive or set the point goal to a certain number, i.e. the team that gets 15 in first, wins. The new mom will be delighted to have a supply of baby supplies!

The BIG Moment

Gather the guests around the table and give each one a cupcake. On the count of three, guests will take a bite of the cupcake and then peek to see what color the gumball is in the center.

Celebrate! Cheer loudly! Congratulate the expectant couple and thank them for sharing this very special moment with you!
