Pool Party Dodge Ball

Your kids might be fans of this party game outside the water, but have they ever played in the pool? A pool party at home gets a whole lot more fun for everyone when you divide your guests into teams to play this water game.

This classic gym class game is usually severly loved or utterly hated. The kings of gym class can't wait to get their hands on the rubber balls and bounce them at their smaller, less threatening classmates -  who usually spend gym class hoping to not get picked. Thankfully, our version leaves less bruises from those ruthless rubber balls and is all about the working together (and splashing!)

This is one of our favorite games to play in the pool because unlike many other underwater games, this game invites teamwork and sportsmanship into the mix. Most other pool party games like Marco Polo and the ever popular "Shark" leaves room for only one victor, causing every child to play against each other.

Summary: A mix between water polo and dodge-ball, this water version of the classic gym game is a great pool activity for able swimmers at your birthday pool party.

Ages: 8+

Recommended Number of Players: 8 able swimmers.

A length of rope long enough to stretch across the middle of the pool

3 beach balls (Adjust the number of balls used to fit with the number of players you have)

Divide your 8 able swimmers into 2 teams of 4 players each, then string a rope across the middle of the pool to divide the playing field. (Adjust the players to match the size of your pool and the number of able swimmers.)

How to Play:

Position each team on either side of the pool and place 3 beach balls along the rope in the middle of the pool.

Apply the same rules as dodge-ball to determine the winner.

Alternative Play: To add a bit more challenge into the mix, if you have a large enough pool and more players, consider dividing the swim space into 4 quadrants with 3 players per area. Place the beach balls on different spots along the rope and see who fires where.
