Repurposed Cone Craft for the Holidays

Repurpose cone decorations into a holiday candy cane craft!

Candy canes and December go together like s’mores and August do. You simply cannot have one without the other, even if you can enjoy the same treat anytime year round.

I love accenting our home with candy canes around the holidays and am always looking for creative ways to display them beyond hanging them on the tree.

This year, I took my left over Halloween cone decorations and turned them upside down to create hanging cones to fill with candy canes, the process was simple and requires little crafting skills to complete.

If you don't have any cardboard cones already on hand you can of course, buy a few, but there's also an easy way to DIY with items you probably have on hand. If you have sturdy cardstock or thin cardboard around craft a cone shape from that type of material. Leftover party hats can be dressed up for the holiday with a simple coat of paint (like below) and turned into the perfect vessel to house these candy canes, too.

Supplies:

1 premade cardboard cone with 2 pin wholes on either side

Snowflake cut scrap-booking paper

Sparkle Mod Podge

Cream Acrylic Paint

Ribbon

Sponge applicator

Candy Canes

Directions:

Step 1: Using the sponge applicator, apply a coat of cream acrylic paint across the surface of the cone, and then allow to dry for 2-3 hours.

Step 2: Once the paint is dry, position your dye cut snowflakes around the cone, and then apply a thin coat of Sparkle Mod Podge across the top of the paper and over the surface of the exposed cream cone. Then allow the cone to dry for 2-3 hours.

Step 3: Once the cone is dry, thread your twine or ribbon through the cone to create a handle.

Step 4: Fill the cone with candy canes for hanging and enjoy one yourself!
