Ron Burgundy's Scotchy Scotch Scotch Cocktail

"I love scotch. Scotchy scotch scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly."

It's no secret that Ron Burgundy loves his Scotch. After a long night reading the news, word-for-word from the teleprompter (and with perfect hair, of course), it's the best way to wind down from a long day of work. 

But even though Ron enjoyed his favorite liquor straight from a highball glass, we're pretty sure he would love this smoky and sweet Scotchy Scotch Sctoch cocktail from People.com's foodie and lifestyle channel, Great Ideas. With some fresh grapefruit and lemon juice, bitters and some brown sugar, this delicious drink goes down almost as smooth as Ron's pickup lines.


  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 ounces Scotch (i.e. Famous Grouse)
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce fresh grapefruit juice
  • 2 dashes peach bitters
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • Orange or lemon peel, for garnish

In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat brown sugar and 1 cup water. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool.

In a shaker with ice, combine the Scotch, lemon and grapefruit juices, 1/2 ounce brown sugar simple syrup, and bitters. Shake vigorously and strain into a short glass with large ice. Garnish with an orange peel. (Leftover brown sugar syrup can be stored in a jar to use in future cocktails.)

Makes: 1
