Set the Mood with Candles

Can you really have too many candles when setting the mood for love? Almost every woman will tell you "absolutely not".

An easy and inexpensive way to add a Valentine's Day decoration to your romantic dinner is with a simple clear glass votive and a few rose petals.

The idea is to wrap the votive holder with ribbon, decorative trim, or real rose petals for an elegant addition the the room.

Presentation is half the battle, so if your romantic dinner for two ended up burning in the oven and you had to opt for take out, you can still savor the rest of the romance by decorating to impress. Or, just booze up your boo with one of our tasty Valentine's Day cocktails. A real Don Juan knows the key to a flawless February 14 is being a triple threat - delicious food, irresistable cocktails, and romantic decorations. Follow these tips for using candles to plan a romantic Valentine's Day this year for you and your sweetie.

How to Create Valentine Votives

What's nice about doing this is that you can have a dozen or so plain votive holders that you change out according to the occasion or event. And remember, always be careful when using paper near an open flame!

We love the deep velvety look the petals provide for a really romantic dinner date. It takes just a light drop of glue at the base of the petal to secure it and a vine embellishment to hold it's upright position on the glass.

If your Valentine's Day celebration is more of a friendly one, you might prefer to use red or pink ribbon wrapped around the center. This is a super fast way to add some flair to the party.

Another way we decorted ours was with textured cardstock, which we cut a mini-heart shaped accordion banner out of and secured to the votive.

We recommend mixing a few decorated votives with a few plain ones to add a bit of romance without piling on the extra cheese.

Candles are a big part of Valentine's Day decorations, so get creative with what you have on hand!
