Stitched Holiday Gift Wrap Ideas

Break away from the stock approach and put a little extra effort into your gift wrap this year.

Presentation is such a huge part of gift giving that often goes overlooked. Most of us will just head to the local drugstore to stock up on generic, and not to mention pretty pricey, gift wrap.

It won’t take a ton of extra time to create your own wrapping paper, but it will add a whole lot of extra cheer to your packages. No matter what’s wrapped up inside, we guarantee your recipient will adore your present so much more if you take a page from our craft tutorial!

I love these ideas for stitched paper and embellishments for wrapping up presents, especially during the winter months. It actually looks like the wrapping is keeping the gift warm! All you’ll need to achieve this look are just a few supplies.

Plain brown paper

Painter’s Tape

Additional paper for bows (optional)

Sew Easy Stitch Piercer

Sew Easy Stitching Mat

Festive Colorful Baker's Twine

Step 1: Start by wrapping the gift and secure with painters tape, or something that can be easily removed. Make sure to really crease the edges of the paper. Then unwrap the present, careful not to tear, and embellish away with your stitch piercer tool and twine. The triangle folds of the wrapping can be done right on the package before you secure it with tape, but other embellishments require the disassembly.

Step 2: Make a paper "ribbon" like here just by cutting a strip of paper and stitching the edges. This is about as easy as it gets! I actually folded the paper and tore it instead of cutting, because I like the soft edge it provides. Just fold back and forth the a few times and moisten the crease (I just licked it, but if you had manners at all, you would use a damp sponge or paper towel), then gently tear.

Step 3: You can even embellish with a big DIY paper bow, too! It’s not hard to create – just follow our easy tutorial.

Step 4: And if you want to go the extra step, consider pairing your cleverly wrapped gift with a stitched greeting card!
