Super Bowl XLVII: Seattle vs. Denver Eats

The Seattle Seahawks will take on the Denver Broncos during Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2 to fight for the title of world football champion. And as excited as we are for the big game, we’re even more eager to dive into delicious watch party food -- especially from each playing city.

Although there aren’t signature dishes that really stand out from each city (except maybe coffee from Seattle), there are some local culinary staples that are definitely worth serving during your Super Bowl bash.

So whether you’re pulling for a Seahawks win or a Broncos victory, check out each of these signature dishes that will add some fun and flair to your watch party.

Seattle's Signature Eats

Smoked Salmon Apps

One of the perks of being on the West Coast is Seattle’s access to fresh seafood, especially salmon. These bite-sized smoked salmon appetizers from Kimba’s Kitchen are not only city-appropriate, but also delicious. Plus, they are fancy enough to appease your snootier friends.

Northwest Dungeness Crab Cakes

Keeping with the seafood theme, crab cakes are a popular party appetizer and perfectly fitting with Seattle cuisine. This recipe for Northwest Dungeness Crab Cakes from The Taste of Oregon are sure to be a crowd pleaser. (And let’s just agree that Oregon and Seattle are close enough, shall we?)

Coffee Cake Cookies

We should all thank Portland every single morning between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. because they gave us quality coffee. Namely, Starbucks. While it may not be a bad idea to serve coffee at your big game bash, the morning beverage tastes great in a coffee cake – but even better in these coffee cake cookies. Check out the recipe from Cookies and Cups for a yummy, bite-sized treat everyone will love.

Denver's Delicious Bites

Chipotle-Inspired Burrito Bowl

So Denver has even slimmer pickings when it comes to signature food (unless you are in the mood to whip up some Denver Omelets in the evening). But did you know the fast-casual empire chain Chipotle was started in the Mile-High City? To pay homage to everyone’s favorite fast casual chain, make this hearty and simple slow cooker Chipotle Pork Burrito Bowl from Meal Planning 101.

Colorado Green Chili

Denver isn’t just known for starting the best fast-casual burrito known to man (see above), they are also known for some good, authentic Mexican food as well. Denver loves its green chiles, especially in chili. Hence why this Colorado Green Chili from Girl Carnivore is perfect to serve to a crowd. Just pop it in a slow cooker, and have guests help themselves.

Beer-Battered Cheese Bread

This recipe is kind of a cheat. Not that we don’t love cheese bread (cheese + bread = everything you ever need). But this recipe isn’t so much a Denver staple, as is the secret ingredient – Coors light. Yep, this recipe from Just Baked used Coors Light to create this irresistible bread. Serve some up at your Super Bowl bash, and rep the famous Rocky Mountain brew.
