What exactly is proposition betting?

Okay, when we first heard about prop betting we'll admit we weren't sure what it meant either. A proposition bet, also known as a prop bet or a side bet, can be made two ways: on the occurrence (or not) during a game and on specific aspects of the pageantry surrounding the game.

This means you can bet on anything from whether or not the national anthem will run longer than 2 minutes, if the score will be tied at half time or on what color the Gatorade will be that's dumped on the winning coach.

What's great about prop betting is that it gets everyone engaged, interested and interactive with the game.

How to make prop bets:

Have a set buy-in for everyone playing. Depending on how many players you have, set a reasonable ante that everyone will be okay with but that's large enough to make it enticing. Generally, for a party of 10 people we try to get $20 - this way the pot is $200 for whoever wins.

Make your guesses before the game starts - in pen! Then, root away. At the end of the game, whoever has guessed the most correct answers properly (just tally it up), wins. A tie means the two winners split. Have fun with your guests and enjoy betting on your next Super Bowl!
