Italian Inspired Tablescape

For an Italian-themed dinner party, it’s easy to create a stylish table setting that is simple, yet eye-catching. Move over macaroni frames, there's a new DIY pasta idea in town.

Throwing a dinner party can often be a daunting task. Not only do you have to cook dinner, but you also have to decorate the table and entertain your guests! How many times have you found yourself holed up in the kitchen while your guests arrive and mingle?

One of the best ways to make entertaining easier is to plan carefully, and that includes making a list of what can be done ahead of time. Obviously you can’t always prepare the food in advance, but you can definitely take care of the details, like your table settings and décor, so that you have more time to cook on the day of the party.

Start out with a crisp white tablecloth, or—if you’re going for a bit of a bolder theme - you can use a darker tablecloth, such as grey. (Even a brighter yellow will work, as it will evoke the vibrancy of the Italian countryside.) Then, layer bold-patterned plates with colorful napkins on top.

I used a mix of cool and warm colors to decorate the table. The blue and teal plates are cooler tones, and pops of warmer colors in the napkins and centerpieces make for a nice contrast.

To create a more casual vibe, I placed two large bottles of water on the table. This allows the guests to serve their own water at their own pace.

To finish off the table with a simple but striking centerpiece, I placed three different types of pasta in three clear glass vases, and then I arranged those vases in the middle of the table. I went out and got a couple of packages of “fancier” pasta to add texture and color - one bag of colorful heart pasta fills the center vase and one bag of long red pasta fills the square vase on the side. For the final vase, I went with good old tall white pasta, to add some height.
