Thanksgiving Tabletop Ideas

To create a festive Thanksgiving spread without breaking bank or adding additional work to your already hefty to-do list, rework and resuse decorative items you already have on hand.

I used such items as candles from the previous Christmas, crystal serving pieces that were in my cabinet, nuts that were left over from Thanksgiving the year before (store them in your freezer to prevent spoilage) and gourds that I purchased for Halloween.

Stalks of wheat and Indian Corn from the year before (store in an airtight container) also made an appearance and leaves that were left over from making the napkin rings were scattered on my table, too.

The votive candles are actually salt and pepper cups I bought on discount and I used a tea light in a metal cup to embellish.

Napkin Rings

For a fun, inexpensive finishing touch to your Thanksgiving dinner table, I created some unique napkin rings that are fun to make and can be reused year after year.

I started with the cardboard core from a roll of paper towel. I cut the roll into 1 to 1 1/2 inch sections. I then used a fall colored ribbon that is slightly wider than the cardboard and glued it to the inside of the roll, leaving enough to wrap around the edges to give your napkin ring a finished look.

To complete the outside I used fall leaves that I purchased at a local craft store. I then glued the leaves around the outside of the paper towel roll to completely cover it. To complete the napkin ring I tied it with raffia to finish it off so that noeone would know I started with a roll of paper towels!

Place Cards

To add punch to a simple placecard that I printed on the computer using heavy ivory paper stock that I purchased at my local office supply store, I used mini Indian Corn as the holder. When displayed next to the napkin on the dinner plate it provided a great finishing touch to my Thanksgiving dinner table.
