Send a wedding announcement to those who did not attend the ceremony!


Sure, you’d like to share your special day with every family member and friend who has made an impact in your life, but nobody wants to shell out $100 a plate for someone they only met once. Similarly, guests from across the country can’t all spend hundreds on a plane ticket to watch you walk down the aisle.

So how do you share the momentous occasion of going from a Miss to a Mrs. with those who couldn’t make it? By sending a Wedding announcement! Don’t just send a plain ol’ announcement, either.  Send one that really embodies your relationship and mutual interests. Send your unique announcements with a photo of the newly married couple for that personal touch.

Why should you send them?

If your celebration included everyone from your third cousin twice removed to your nosy neighbor Nancy Sue, then you may not need to worry about sending any announcements out. But, if your reception was more intimate, consider sending out your announcement to those you weren’t able to invite.

Who should you send them to?

If your special day included only your closest family and a few select friends, send your announcement out to family members who weren’t invited/couldn’t make it, old friends who you may have lost touch with, and of course – coworkers who you couldn’t afford to invite. Make sure and send your boss one too – maybe you’ll have a surprise gift basket waiting for you when you come back from your honeymoon!

If you’re a public figure, you may want to send out your wedding announcement to any contacts you keep in touch with. This will give them a chance to update their address book and can even strengthen your relationship. Just because you usually discuss business, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t share your joy with them!

This is also a perfect time for Mom to brag about how beautiful a bride her daughter made. Your parents may have friends or relatives they were unable to invite, so give Mom and Dad a chance to send out a Wedding announcement to anyone they see fit.

When should you send them?

Wedding announcements are usually sent out right before – or after- the big day. We recommend having them prepared the day of and having someone from the bridal party mail them out after the ceremony. This avoids any uncomfortable emails in case things don’t go quite so smoothly.

Ways to Personalize

Get creative with your wedding announcements so those that weren’t in attendance can still get in on the fun! There are many ways you can personalize them and make the recipients feel like they were there on your special day.

Pick out unique announcements that stick to your theme. They may not have been there to see the décor and indulge in fancy food, but they will most likely see photos from the big event! Having a piece of the theme is a simple way to make them feel special.

Include a photo – then and now.  Most weddings have a gallery or slideshow of photos from when the bride and groom were kids, to the loving couple now. Since the recipients will be missing this slideshow, give them a taste of it with your favorite funny photos – 1 of you as kids, and another of you as a loving couple.
