Theme Ideas For a Girls Night Out

The time-honored tradition of the girls' night out, especially if it's held at home, calls for a theme. It won’t just make it more fun, but it will also help you to make all those other important decisions, like what drinks you serve and decorations to put out!

Here are a few theme ideas to get you started on planning your own girls’ night out:

Wine Tasting: Have everyone bring two bottles of wine. When your guests show up, immediately cover the label on one of each guest’s bottles—either with an opaque label or by putting it in a paper bag—and place a number on the front. Everyone tastes a sip from each bottle (in a wine glass) and votes for their favorite wine. The person who brings the winning bottle gets to take all of the extra unopened bottles home!

Cheese Tasting: Buy a few of those exotic cheeses that you see in the deli case, or let everyone bring a different variety of cheese. Trying something new together is always fun!

Chocolate Tasting: Chili-spiced chocolate? Chocolate with pop rocks inside? How about ginger dark chocolate? There are a million new gourmet-flavored chocolates available now. Gather up a dozen or so and plate them up for your guests to taste-test.

Iron Chef Night: Choose one ingredient and ask everyone to make an appetizer using it, which they can then bring to share. Chocolate, cheese, artichokes, spinach, caramel, vanilla, cream cheese and tomatoes would all be good candidates!

Miami Spice: Theme your girls' night out with all the fabulous things that make South Beach oh-so-fun: Latin music, Latin food, mojitos and brightly colored décor!

Spa Night: Put on facemasks, paint nails and swap stories at a pampering night. You can even make salt and sugar scrubs yourself to send home with guests!

Pinterest Party: Pick a craft or two from Pinterest, which everyone can make together and take home.

Martini Night Out: Make a few pitchers of signature martinis to serve and try. Stick to traditional recipes, or find new or interesting ones on Pinterest.

Trivia Night: Break out the Trivial Pursuit and have some laughs over your smarts—or lack thereof!

Glam party: Why not throw a party just so you can wear a tiara? (I have!) Have a "glam" girls' night out, where everyone puts on those glamorous things they have tucked away in the closet. Relax together at home, or take those tiaras out on the town!

Cupcake Contest: Who’s the cupcake queen? Find out. Have every guest make her favorite homemade cupcake recipe ahead of time and bring her cupcakes to compete for the cupcake crown. (But let’s be honest: With all those cupcakes to try, everyone will win!)
