9 Creative No-Fuss Housewarming Party Ideas When You're Not Unpacked

Sure, you want to show off your new place to your friends and family. But the stress of moving to a new house or apartment is enough without the added pressure to have a housewarming party for everyone you know. We wanted to take the pressure off, and give you the chance to enjoy your new digs without worrying about it looking perfect.

With these clever hacks, you won't need to have all new furniture or unpack all of your kitchen supplies. in fact, you can make do with no real chairs or plates at all!

Push your remaining boxes aside, and enjoy the company of your friends and family in your new digs. You can even have them do a bit of decorating as well! These simple ideas will put you at ease, and let you enjoy your company rather than stress over every tiny detail.

1. DIY Message Wall

Moving can mean lots and lots of decorating. Instead of stressing about how much wall art you have hung, fill your blank walls with a bunch of colorful Post-Its. Have your guest write down a favorite memory they have with you, or a fun anecdote. We love this idea from Coco Kelley because not only does it look simplistic and modern, it will also be tons of fun to read the messages later. Plus, Post-Its are super affordable!

2. Crate Seating

When you're newly moved, you don't always have enough couches and chairs ready for a party. We love the idea of using some sturdy crates you have laying around from packing, or even a few of those cardboard boxes (given they are strong enough, of course!) Throw some pillows on top and your guests will be able to take a seat in comfort.

3. DIY Serving Utensils

If you're in need of some new kitchen utensils for your new place, look no further than your local thrift store. Take a pair of old wooden serving spoons or salad tongs (wash them thoroughly, of course!) and give them a modern update with some creative paint, like this adorable set from from The Ooh Blog. They will help to make your new house to feel more like a home, and you can even use samples of paint that you already have to decorate.

4. Paper Placemats

This seems like the perfect, "we just moved and haven't started unpacking yet" idea. Grab some of that leftover packing paper you're sure to have, and turn them into placemats, tablecloths or buffet runner. The best part? You can write right on the paper to let guests know where they are sitting or what they are eating. And when the party is over, just grab a garbage bag — its completely easy clean up!

5. DIY Mugs

If you're hosting a smaller gathering, a fun group craft idea would be to have people decorate some coffe mugs, like these DIY Mugs from Savvy Sugar. Lay out solid mugs and sharpie paint markers for your guests to decorate. You can stock your new kitchen with much-needed glassware, and admire your creative friends' beautiful designs!

6. Paint Brush Rice Krispie Treats

Cooking in your new pad will be hard without unpacking, but we thought some of our No-Bake Desserts could be perfect. Just pull out (or buy) a tray or two and serve these treats up to your guests. We also love these Paint Brush Rice Crispy Treats (treats + colored icing + popsicle sticks = super easy), and they are right on theme when it comes to moving in and decorating!

7. Paint Chip Utensil Holders

Painting your new pad means that you'll be collecting tons of paint chips, so why not put the ones you don't want to use? Staple two of them back-to-back, and insert your meal utentils for each guest: a fork, knife, spoon and napkin. They add fun pops of color to the table, and guests can recycle after dinner is over. Hint: If you know you'll be having people over soon after your move, pick up some extras from the hardware store.

8. Paint Chip Cocktails

On the theme with painting, these Ombre Grapfruit Cocktails from Handmade Mood are great! And if you don't have your champagne flutes unpacked yet, you can pick up some cheap plastic ones (flutes or regular drinking cups) from the party supply store. The layers of color look like paint chips, and add to the decoration if you place is still looking a little bare.

9. Easy, No-Heat Meal Ideas

Of course we wouldn't host a party without something to feed our guests! These No-Heat Meals, are perfect for those still unpacking or gather kitchen appliances. No need to rush to get a microwave, or even pots and pans for the stove with these delicious ideas.
