Ugly Sweater Holiday Party Desserts

I never met a dessert I didn't like, so I have a hard time calling any of them "tacky." That being said, for a ugly sweater holiday party, I think finding a few dishes that are a bit on the witty side might make an ugly sweater party a little more interesting.

Inspired by some of the classic desserts from the 80s as well as a dressed up cookie just for the occasion, we've got a few dessert ideas for your ugly sweater party that'll add even more fun to the festivities.

Classic Bundt Cake Dressed in Red and Green

When I think of 80s desserts or throwback desserts, I think of Bundt cakes. I think I may have been forcibly served more than a few when I was a kid; the kind in the box with the cream centers were mom’s favorite. To make this cake simple and easy, a box cake was used and put in a bundt pan. The secret to the amazing embellishment? A couple of enthusiastic children and a large supply of sprinkles for that extra festive look.

For the sugar glaze, mix 1 cup of powdered sugar, two tablespoons milk and a half teaspoon of extract of your choice (I used caramel for my chocolate cake; vanilla is great, too!) Just drizzle the glaze over the top of the cake when it’s cool.

Ugly Sweater Gingerbread Men

I have really fabulous from-scratch recipes for making gingerbread houses, but in all honesty, I prefer the bag mixes for making gingerbread men. They’re always yummy and come out perfect almost every time.

The unique idea here is that these are not traditional gingerbread men—they are all all wearing ugly sweaters to celebrate. And you don’t have to be a true artist to create some convincingly tacky cookies; sprinkles, star tips and any other typical gingerbread decoration can help make them less than classy.

More Tacky Dessert Ideas

Anything in a Jell-O mold is going to rock a tacky party. I think your guests will award bonus points if there is something chunky in the Jell-O. Pineapple upside down cakes with a generous helping of maraschino cherries, fruit cake, and little puddings are also great options for ugly sweater party desserts!

Whatever desserts you serve at your ugly sweater party, just make sure they make their grand entrance on tacky, over-the-top Christmas plates for a really fun and festive display!
