Valentine's Day Ideas -- That Don't Break the Bank!

Valentine's Day can end up adding up and hurt your wallet if you're trying to be on a budget. But there are many ways you can show your loved ones you care without spending a forture. We've gathered some great tips that are cheap and budget-friendly for Valentine's Day. Be creative and get points for being personal, not for shelling out mega dollars to buy a stereotypical dinner and movie.

For the Group:

1)  Cupcakes:  all the rage!  You make the cupcakes, everyone else brings a topping.  Decorate, eat, go to it!

2)  Plan a scaveneger hunt around town.  Must get a picture with every person you encounter who hates V-day!

3)  Let's be 5 again!  Remember when you made those adorable valentine's for your classmates?  Crossed out "like" and put in "love"? Yeah, we all did it!  Dress up like you're all back in kindergarten, exchange the silliest cards you can find, use your fingers only to decorate sugar cookies, crack open pinatas, set up a giant candy table and have some fun!

4) One fantastic dish needed!  No need for you all to go out to an expensive restaurant.  Have everyone bring one extra fancy dish and create a masterpiece.

5) Have a coffee party.  Love and coffee just go together more than tea and love!  Pull out your french press coffee maker, make some extra strong blends, and have everyone bring their favorite additions: whip cream, chocolate shavings, mocha, frappe blends, etc.  Toast to love with some yummy caffeine!

For the Couple:

1)  Build a fort!  Camp out in the living room with a stockpile of your favorite movies, silly, cheesy snacks and be kids again for the night.  Pick a TV sitcom you both enjoy and have an all nighter marathon.

2)  Romantic Drive:  Plan out a scenic drive that will help you escape the city and create some "adventure" excitement.  Bonus points for creating a soundtrack to accompany the drive.

3)  Cook dinner & dessert:  Almost nothing beats an evening in the kitchen  together creating something spectacular.  Make a mess, throw flour across the room, get playful!  If you're spending the "day" at it, start with a morning trip to the farmer's market together.

4)  Rent a movie on dancing lessons.  Dancing lessons themselves can be rather expensive, but you can easily rent or buy a movie.  Plus, you'll be much more likely to have fun making a fool of yourself if it's in the comfort of your living room.
