What to Pack for Destination Weddings

Destination weddings are fun, exotic, and absolutely memorable, but as a guest, it also means more responsibility and commitment. While destination weddings are usually announced further ahead of time to ensure guests can make the proper arrangements, there is still the factor of cost and time.

If you have the means, attending a destination wedding will be a once in a lifetime experience as well as vacation!

There are a few things to keep in mind when packing your bags to attend a destination wedding.

Gift Ahead

While most couples consider your attendance their gift, some guests may still want to give the bride and groom a traditional wedding gift as well.

Avoid having to lug those gifts around in your suitcase by sending the gift to the couples home or give it to one of their parents. Besides saving yourself some suitcase room, the newly married couple won’t have to worry about getting your gift through customs and fitting it into their suitcases!

Do Your Research

If you are going to a country where they speak another language, familiarize yourself with helpful phrases and common questions. Be sure you know the current exchange rate so you bring enough spending money for gifts and excursions.

Learning local customs and brushing up on important cultural differences may be a good idea, as well. Some countries may find certain things offensive or disrespectful.

Your best bet - pack a travel guide!

Pack Properly

Destination weddings require a little more work for guests when it comes to preparation. Packing just your lipstick and spare heels in a purse won’t do!

Depending on where the wedding takes place effects what you should and should not bring. Be sure to check the weather before zipping up your suitcase in case you are going to be running into some inclement weather. Also keep in mind airline restrictions regarding checked and non-checked bags. Always best to keep toiletries in checked pieces to ensure security clearance!
