White Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats

If there's one dessert that I'll never say no too, it’s homemade Rice Krispie Treats. There is something about that sweet combination of marshmallows and rice krispies that make them as irresistable now as they were when I was a kid.

I wanted to dress up this Rice Krispie recipe to make it festive for Valentine's Day, so I drizzled them with some melted white chocolate, and topped them off with adorable heart sprinkles.

With just those two simple additions, the ordinary Rice Krispies Treat becomes a beautiful Valentine's Day dessert. Make a batch for your coworkers, with your kids or even for that special someone.

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 10-ounce bag of marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 2 cups white chocolate
  • Valentines Day sprinkles. I used large heart sprinkles

Generously grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Set aside until ready to use.

Place a large pot over medium-low heat and add the 5 tablespoons of butter to pot. Slowly melt the butter, and once melted, add the whole bag of marshmallows to the pot. Using a wooden spoon, stir the marshmallows occasionally to allow them to melt easier and not stick to the bottom and sides of the pot. One the marshmallows have melted, remove the pot from the heat and add the Rice Krispies. Stir to coat the Rice Krispies completely with the melted marshmallows.

Pour the Rice Krispie mixture into the prepared pan and carefully press the rice crispies into the pan. Allow the Rice Krispies to cool in the pan on the counter before slicing.

While the Rice Krispie treats are cooling, begin melting the white chocolate. Place the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 30-second intervals until the chocolate is smooth and completely melted.

Once the rice crispie treats have cooled and hardened, drizzle the white chocolate over the entire surface. Sprinkle with the Valentines Day sprinkles (I used large heart sprinkles). Allow the white chocolate to cool before slicing the treats into squares. Serve and enjoy!

These can be made up to 24 hours in advance. Just be sure to store them in a sealed container before (and after) serving.
