Banana Boat Treat for Kids

Part s’mores, part banana split, these banana canoes are a campfire must! Whether you and your family find yourselves in the middle of the woods or in your own kitchen, this ooey gooey treat is sure to produce some very happy campers.

No need for fancy bakeware for this campfire recipe, the banana’s peel becomes a convenient little dish of its own, perfect for melting chocolate, caramel, and of course, marshmallows.

Don’t have access to a bonfire? Not a problem! These blissful boats are just as tasty when made in the oven or tossed on the grill.

Ingredients:

Three medium, ripe bananas

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup white chocolate chips

Three marshmallows, each cut into thirds

Directions:

Using a sharp knife cut a slit down the center of each banana, being careful not to cut too deep—you want to split the peel not the entire banana.

Divide both white and semi-sweet chocolate chips between the three bananas. Holding open the slit in the peel, begin stuffing the banana with chocolate until both sides are just about full.

Next, line the marshmallow slices down the center of the banana in a row of three. Feel free to add more chocolate or other toppings like sprinkles or crushed graham cracker at this time.

Once stuffed, wrap the entire banana in aluminum foil and set directly on campfire for just a few minutes or until chocolate and marshmallows have completely melted. If using a conventional oven, preheat oven to 375°F and bake for 5 minutes. Serve immediately
