Beer and Mustard Marinade Recipe

Beers and barbecues go hand-in-hand - at least in my house. This summer I found myself turning to my favorite light brew for added flavor when marinating the meats we were planning to grill.

I've played around with many beer marinades over the past few weeks - a Corona and lime one for some chicken I made was a big hit for me, and super simple to make, but this beer and mustard marinade stood out most with my friends.

This marinade recipe doesn’t require a ton of ingredients, but the mix produces a ton of flavor for heartier meats.

We mixed this marinade up with staple ingredients we keep on hand pretty much all the time, but so long as you keep the base of mustard and beer, you can really feel free to customize the marinade with whatever flavors you like or the ingredients in your pantry.

Mixed with steak in mind, I’d also use a subtler version of this marinade on chicken or even to slow-cook pork.

2 tablespoons Jack Daniel’s Mustard
1/2 bottle of light beer, about 6 ounces
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon chive, chopped
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon black pepper

In a glass bowl, combine all your ingredients and whisk together. Add your meat to the marinade and allow it to rest for at least 20 minutes.

Reserve any extra marinade and cook down to use as a sauce to top your meat when it’s finished cooking and you’re ready to serve.

1 1/2 cups marinade
