Creative Kids Lunch Idea: Ham Sandwich on a Stick

Skip the boring old PB&J sandwich and something a little more creative in your child's school lunch with this ham sandwich on a stick recipe.

It can be hard to make your child’s lunch more exciting, but I thought it could be cute and creative to put your typical ham sandwich on a stick. The only special item you need is a wooden skewer!

When using the wooden skewer, be sure to remove the sharp spikes from the end of the skewer first. Then, simply place smaller-sized sandwich ingredients in order on the stick. I used bread, cheese, lettuce, a cherry tomato, and ham, before finishing it all off with another piece of bread. But to be even more creative, you can add some cubes of fruit on the edges of the skewer as a bonus snack!

Also, it’s important to note that it’s a little tricky to eat the sandwich on the actual skewer. So just make sure you tell your kid to remove the food from the stick first, instead of trying to bite it off the top or from the side!

Ingredients
  • 1 long skewer stick, cut in half
  • 1 piece of white or wheat bread, crusts cut off
  • 2 slices of deli ham
  • 1 slice of cheddar cheese, cut into small squares
  • 1 piece of iceberg lettuce
  • 2 cherry tomatoes
Directions

Cut the slice of bread into 4 square pieces.

Place the items of the skewer in the following order:

1 piece of bread

Half of the cheese squares

Half of the iceberg lettuce (broken into pieces)

1 cherry tomato

1 piece of ham (folded into layers)

1 piece of bread

Makes:

1 long skewer or 2 small skewers
