Easy Homemade Patriotic Cookies for Summer

We’re so overwhelmed by the warm and fuzzies we get from baking a batch of cookies, that we’ve decided to add a bit of patriotic punch to our dough in order to having our party table oozing red, white and blue. Don’t be fooled by the unusual color of these cookies, underneath their blue hue lies an all-American recipe!

Freshly baked chocolate chip cookies are a great American treat that never quite seem to get old.

Gooey on the inside and crunchy on the outside, these classic cookies leave little to be wanted.

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 cup butter, softened

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 packed brown sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 package white chocolate chips

4 to 6 drops blue food coloring

2-3 drops black food coloring

Preheat your oven to 350°F. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat together butter and shortening until well combined. Add eggs, sugars, vanilla, baking soda, and salt, and continue mixing until a thin dough begins to form.

Half a cup at a time, stir in the flour until well combined, scrapping down edges as you go. Add blue and black food coloring a few drops at a time until desired shade is reached; stop mixer and manually fold in white chocolate chips.

Using a tablespoon or small ice cream scoop, spoon small amounts of dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Place sheet on oven’s top rack and bake for 8 minutes or until slightly golden around edges.

Serve warm with an ice cold glass of milk.
