Festive Graduation Cupcakes

These balloon cupcakes are sure to lift any grad’s spirits up into the air at the end of the celebration for accomplishing such a milestone

  • Your favorite cupcake mix or recipe
  • 8 ounces of homemade or store bought white icing
  • Black fondant (You can dye your own, but it’s often easier to just buy it already colored.)
  • Gold or yellow food coloring
  • Funfetti or other colorful sprinkles
  • Plastic sandwich bag
  • Scissors

On parchment or waxed paper, roll out the fondant to ... in. thick. Cut out three 1” teardrop shapes for each cupcake. Let them dry overnight.

Bake a batch of your favorite cupcakes allowing them to cool before frosting.

Using plain white icing frost cupcakes creating a smooth and even foundation to lay your fondant. Reserve 3 to 4 ounces of icing for your balloon strings.

Dip cupcakes in confetti sprinkles and roll along the circumference of top until entire edge is surrounded.

Next, press three balloons into each cupcake spacing them neatly and evenly.

Tint reserved white icing with food coloring and carefully spoon into sandwich bag. Cut one corner of bag just enough to create a thin writing tip.

Neatly pipe wavy lines from the bottom of each fondant balloon to the edge of the cupcake “tying” them off where the three lines meet. Let dry and serve!
