Four Roses Bourbon Caramel Sauce

It’s amazing to me that something as perfect and delicious as vanilla ice cream could be improved upon, but listen up my fellow sweet-toothed citizens: there is a SIMPLE sauce out there you can make today with less than five ingredients!

This bourbon caramel sauce gets its character from my favorite bourbon - small batch Four Roses. Think about this sauce as a great host gift when your friends are entertaining!

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup water

3/4 cup heavy cream

3 tablespoons Four Roses bourbon

1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

1 pinch salt

Directions:

In a dry heavy saucepan cook sugar and water over moderately low heat, swirling slowly until melted and pale golden. (It is important to swirl the sugar in the pan and not to stir it at this stage.)

Cook caramel, still without stirring in your swirling pan, until deep golden. Remove pan from heat and carefully add cream, bourbon, lemon juice, and salt. You will see the caramel will steam and harden. Return pan to heat and simmer sauce, stirring, until caramel is dissolved, about 5 minutes.

Pour sauce into a bowl and cool slightly.

Tip:If serving out of the fridge, heat up in the microwave for about 30 seconds.(Sauce keeps, covered and chilled, 2 weeks.)
