Fresh Berries Spiked with Red Wine

When hosting a wine tasting party for a group of friends, it is always nice to have a theme — whether that involves tasting wines of a certain variety or sampling a few wines from a specific country or region.

And the best part is, once you choose that theme for your party, you can add unique little touches that will truly make your guests feel like some careful thought and planning went into your event. From food to décor, every little detail makes a difference!

Here’s one idea I love, which will add some simple sophistication to your gathering. The French are known for soaking berries in a light bodied red wine and nibbling them on hot summer days, so for a wine tasting party that includes reds from France, consider using this recipe to create a simple yet chic snack. These berries will pair perfectly with your French red wine samplings, while also offering your guests a light snack that combines the beauty of French wines and the sweetness of fresh berries, all in one bite. It’s kind of like serving up a taste of the French Riviera in a bowl. Just follow the super easy steps below and you’ll have berries that are ready to serve in just a little bit over an hour.

1 bottle of a light-bodied fruity French red wine

5 cups of fresh mixed berries

Place the fresh berries (strawberries and blackberries work best) in a large mixing bowl.

Top the berries with the red wine of your choice. (If you aren’t sure why type to choose, ask for a recommendation at your wine store.)

Place the berries in the refrigerator and allow them to rest together for an hour.

Serve the berries to your guests in a finger bowl.
