Delicious Birthday Party Snack: Frosted Cheerio Treats

Rice Crispy Treats are by far some of the easiest dessert-snacks to make. You only need a few ingredients, and the assembly time is very minimal.  Playing off of the idea of Rice Cripsy Treats, and how simple (and delicious!) they are, I made these Frosted Cheerios Treats for a fun kids themed birthday party.

I followed the same technique as Rice Crispy Treats, but used Frosted Cherrios cereal instead of Rice Crispies. The result is the same gooey texture as Rice Crispy Treats, but with the added fun and flavor of Frosted Cheerios.

The shape also looks cute with the circles, and went perfectly with the soccer theme. Make these for a dessert option or even a sweet snack to enjoy on special occasions. With just a few ingredients, you'll have a delicious treat in no time!

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 10 ounces (1 large bag) of marshmallows ( like to use the larger ones)
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 5 cups Frosted Cheerios cereal

Butter the bottom of a 9x9 baking pan and set aside.

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the marshmallows and salt, stirring occasionally, until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth. Stir in the vanilla.

Add the cereal to the marshmallows and stir until the cereal is completely coated with the melted marshmallows. Remove from the heat and stir a few more times to make sure the cereal is coated and there are no melted marshmallows on the bottom of the pan. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and press it down into the pan. Because the mixture can be so sticky, I butter my hands to press the mixture into the pan.

Let the treats cool in the pan on counter until completely cooled and hardened, about 1 hour. Cut into squares, and place on a cake stand to serve.

* These last up to 3 days in a sealed container.

Makes: 12-15, depending on the size you cut your squares.
