Mango Caipirinha: Brazil's Signature Cocktail with a Tropical Fruit Twist

With the World Cup right around the corner, it's time to get in the Brazilian spirit. One of my favorite recipes inspired by Brazil is the delicious and refreshing Mango Caipirinha.

I met my first (of many) caipirinha when I was studying in Paris. I used to frequent a cool Brazilian club in République called Favela Chic and those tasty beverages fueled many a late night of dancing to vivacious samba beats.

For those of you unfamiliar with this drink, the caipirinha is the national cocktail of Brazil and it typically features three ingredients: cachaça (the booze), lime, and brown sugar. In honor of this summer's World Cup taking place in Brazil, I give you my favorite version of the caipirinha featuring mango, a delicious summer fruit.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup Cachaça
  • Half a lime, cut into quarters (wedges)
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 of a mango, puréed*
  • Ice

*If you're a big fan of mango, you can up the amount to 1/2 of a mango

Directions

Combine the lime and sugar in the glass in which you plan to serve the beverage. Using a wooden spoon (or a muddling utensil if you own one), mash the lime and sugar together.

Then add in your puréed mango and stir well.

Add in some ice and the cachaça. Stir. Garnish with a lime slice and enjoy!

Makes: 1 cocktail
