Simple and inexpensive, these savory pies with a taco kick make party planning on a budget as easy as 1-2-3.
4 sheets of ready-made short crust pastry
6 cups of cooked ground sausage meat
2 cups of cheese
1 teaspoon of chili powder
1 clove of garlic
1 egg white
Pre-heat your oven to 375 F. In a frying pan, brown the chopped onions and grated garlic, and then toss in the ground sausage meat. Just before the meat browns, add your chili powder and stir the ingredients together until fully blended.
While the meat cools, roll out your ready-made pastry dough and place it on top of a sheet of parchment paper on a baking tray. Using a cookie cutter, cut the pastry into round disks. Place a tablespoon of the cooked meat into the center of each pastry round, then top with a diced tomato and a pinch of grated cheese, taking care to leave a modest rim around the pastry disc to attach the top.
Using a pastry brush, apply a thin coating of egg white to the edges of each disc before attaching the top disc to the bottom disc of pastry. Use a fork to gently press the edges together, and then pierce the top of each pie with a knife.
Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Before serving, place them on a tray with a dipping bowl filled with salsa.
