Sparkling Watermelon Lemonade

The perfect summer drink is cool and refreshing while embodying the sweetest flavors of the season. So what's our recipe for the perfect summer sip? Sparkling lemonade mixed with watermelon puree equals a fabulous summertime refreshment fit for any celebration!

The beverage itself is tangy and delicious, and the watermelon ball garnishes are the perfect compliment to a day spent melting in the sun. The watermelon skewers even do the job of keeping the drink chilled without watering down like usual ice cubes. It's a win win!

As if this sip weren't enough, we even served it out of the watermelon itself!

Turning a watermelon into a keg is super simple. Follow this basic tutorial to make one of your own - just be careful not to puncture the walls of the watermelon or your delicious drink will leak out!  Our spigot of choise is a replacement Thompsons Faucet, you can pick one up here

Kids and adults will be impressed with the juicy flavor of this mix as well as the presentation, and we bet you'll be relieved when they ask for your homemade watermelon lemonade instead of the usual store-bought fruit punch.

We served this drink during a family picnic, so we chose to keep our recipe a mocktail, but this drink becomes an instant cocktail when you add a splash of watermelon vodka! Just be sure to warn your guests of the alcohol contents - watermelons are known for stealthily soaking up those spirits.

Ingredients:

1 (750 ml) bottle of Sparkling Lemonade

3 cups of cubed watermelon

watermelon balls

Directions:

For Watermelon Lemonade

Puree the cubed watermelon in a blender. Then, add about 1/4 cup puree to each glass and top off with the sparkling lemonade. For garnish, add a frozen watermelon ball skewer to each glass.

For watermelon skewers:

Using a melon baller, make watermelon balls and thread them onto long wooden skewers. Place skewers in freezer until serving time, then use to garnish the drink.

Pack this drink for a picnic by placing the bottled lemonade, a jar of the watermelon puree, and the frozen watermelon skewers in an ice chest. Combine the ingredients when it's time for a little refreshment.

Make things even more convenient by packing mason jars for sipping instead of your typical plastic picnic cups. That way, you can add the ingredients in the jar and mix without having to use extra cups or utensils.
