Sparkly Spider Cookies

These sparkly spider cookies are perfect for the hostess who likes to add a little glam to her spook! If you're hosting a frightful yet fancy Halloween party, you'll still need to serve the traditional creepy treats, but you can still put a glamorous on an otherwise dark and sinister celebration. And if you need some tips or inspiration for decorating your fabulously frightful, our GOTHIC GLAM PARTY has some seriously cute ideas that are just as glitzy as they are gorey!

An easy way to add some pizazz to your traditional Halloween treats is with one secret ingredient: sprinkles! Sprinkles are a wonderful cookie decorating tool. Because a generous coating of sprinkles covers icing imperfections, these colorful spider cookies for Halloween are the perfect starter cookie for rookie decorators. Adapt the instructions below for any size or shape spider cookie cutter you can find, or, just use a circle cookie cutter.

  • Spider cookie cutter
  • Cookie dough
  • Royal icing
  • Food coloring (black, orange, and purple)
  • 3 disposable decorating bags 3 couplers 3 size “3” decorating tipsRubber bands
  • Sprinkles or sanding sugar (black, orange and purple)
  • Small, shallow bowls
  • Helpful Hint: Find decorating bags, couplers, tips and sprinkles at the craft store. For food coloring, I suggest Americolor Soft Gel Pastes (Orange, Electric Green, and Electric Purple used here), found online or in specialty stores.

Prepare cookie dough according to the recipe, roll out and cut out your spider cookies. Bake according to the recipe and let cool completely.

Prepare royal icing according to the recipe. Divide and tint black, orange and purple. Prepare decorating bags with couplers and size “3” tips, fill with each color, and close tightly with rubber bands.

Pour each color of the sprinkles into separate shallow bowls. Work with one cookie at a time. Pipe a circle of icing on the cookie, then pipe back and forth to fill the circle with icing. Pipe 8 legs. Hold the cookie at the sides, overturn and dip the entire iced top of the cookie into a coordinating color of sprinkles. Place the cookie right-side up on a baking tray. Let the cookies dry overnight.
