Star-Shaped Homemade Tortilla Chips Recipe

Nothing tastes better or is easier to prepare than homemade tortilla chips. With a total prep and cooking time that clocks in at less than 20 minutes, once you make these you will wonder why you ever bought bagged tortilla chips in the first place.

Plus your guests will hail you as a kitchen genius with an eye for detail! To make these chips, all you need is flour or corn tortillas, a cookie cutter, a baking sheet—and an imagination to help you dream up interesting toppings. This recipe is a savory recipe with corn tortillas and paprika, but we often make a sweeter version using flour tortillas seasoned with honey and cinnamon too. The options are endless!

Ingredients
  • 3 cups chopped leeks (white part only)
  • 24 corn tortillas
  • 3 tablespoons of paprika
  • 2 cups of chick peas or garbanzo beans
  • 1 tablespoon of tahini
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Juice from 1/2 a lemon
  • Pinch of salt & pepper
  • 1/3 cup of olive oil
Directions

Preheat your oven to 375F. While it heats, use a cookie cutter to cut the star shape out of the tortillas. (If you are pressed for time, stacking the tortillas to cut multiple cuts at one time works just as well as doing it one by one.)

Once cut, lay the stars on a baking sheet and lightly brush with olive oil. Bake for 15 minutes or until they start to turn light brown, taking care not to burn them.

While your stars bake, prepare the dip by adding the beans, garlic, Tahini, olive oil, salt, pepper and lemon to a blender, blitzing it until it is creamy. Before removing it from the blender, add lemon, garlic or seasoning to fit your taste.

Remove the chips from the oven and dust them with paprika, and place your dip into a bowl, drizzling with paprika and olive oil before serving.
