Sweet and Simple Berry Trifle Shots

When you use red velvet cake to put a new spin on classic strawberry shortcake, everyone has a reason to celebrate.This sweet treat won’t just take advantage of the summer strawberry season, it will also give your guests an easy to eat dessert of their very own.


They’ll be asking for the recipe before they even finish their trifle! Made the night before the party, this guaranteed crowd pleaser is also the perfect kitchen project for your favorite little cooks. Ask your children to help you assemble the mini desserts the night before the party, and they’ll be thrilled to pitch in!

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup of Red Velvet Cake (this is about one cupcake)
  • 1/4 cup of whipped cream*
  • 2 fresh strawberries
  • Mint for garnish
Directions

Set all your ingredients out on the counter, allowing yourself plenty of room for assembling the trifle. Start by using the shot glass to cut out the red velvet cake, making enough circles so that you have 2 layers of cake for every shot glass.

Once the cakes are cut, layer the glasses with a piece of cake, some whipped cream, and a strawberry, until the glass is full. Take care to avoid thick layers, as it often looks nicer if you can present at least 2 layers of each ingredient.

Garnish with a mint, and store the trifles in the fridge until you are ready to serve them.

*One note: If you are using freshly whipped cream, be sure to whip it until it is firm. Softly whipped cream will not set well overnight!
