Drink Your Dessert: Thin Mint Martini

Who can say no to Girl Scout cookies? Not only are they irresistible; you're helping a good cause with every box purchased. That's why I justify buying 10 boxes of Thin Mints at a time. Hey, I'm doing it for the kids! 


As easy as it is for me to devour an entire sleeve of Thin Mint cookies in one sitting (I mean seriously, what is more perfect than the delicious combination of chocolate and mint?), it of course had me thinking about a delicious way to incorporate my favorite Girl Scout cookie into an equally delicious cocktail. Because my brain always goes right to cocktails. 

 

 

I already had some crème de menthe on hand from when I made my Boozy Shamrock Shake, so I brainstormed how to make my favorite mint cookie into a drinkable treat. After playing around, I realized that with some white chocolate liqueur, chocolate-flavored vodka and a splash of half-and-half, I had the perfect dessert martini. 

Admittedly, I used white chocolate liqueur and a clear chocolate vodka so I could get a pretty green color with the green creme de menthe ( I also cheated and added some drops of green food coloring). But any kind of crème de cacao and chocolate vodka will work just fine. 

Warning: The more you drink alcohol, the less will power you have, and the more Girl Scout cookies you are tempted to eat. So don't be surprised if your entire sleeve of Thin Mints goes "missing" in a matter of minutes. 

Ingredients
  • 1 oz crème de menthe
  • 1 oz white chocolate liqueur
  • 2 oz chocolate-flavored vodka (I used Three Olives) 
  • 1 oz half-and-half
  • 1/2 teaspoon mint extract (optional for more minty taste) 
  • 1-2 handfuls of chocolate chips to rim glass
  • Crumbled Oreos or Thin Mint cookie to garnish on top
Directions

Place chocolate chips in a deep microwave safe bowl or plate, and heat for about 25 seconds in the microwave. Once melted, rim the martini glass with the melted chocolate. Set rimmed glass in the freezer until the chocolate hardens.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, and add crème de menthe, chocolate liqueur, vodka and mint extract (optional). Shake. Then, add half-and-half, and stir with a cocktail spoon.

Strain into chilled martini class. Garnish with crumbled cookies on top, or a whole Thin Mint cookie. 

Makes: 1 martini
