Tiramisu in a Jar Dessert Recipe

This dessert recipe is a little bit different than traditional Tiramisu. Instead of using store-bought ladyfingers, this Tiramisu is made with homemade, fresh ladyfingers. Not everyone has access to ladyfingers at their local store, so throwing together a quick batch is the perfect solution. Also, instead of espresso, coffee is incorporated into the Tiramisu to lighten the taste. Everyone will enjoy this easy, delicious dessert served up in a jar.

Tiramisu is a traditional Italian dessert recipe made with ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, and espresso. This dessert is typically assembled in cake form, but why not be different and make Tiramisu in individual sized mason jars?

Ingredients
  • For Tiramisu:
  • 16 ounces Mascarpone Cheese
  • 4 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 cup Coffee, Divided
  • 24 Ladyfingers (Recipe Below)
  • 1 cup Whipped Cream
  • 1/4 cup Chocolate, Shaved
  • For Lady Fingers:
  • 4 ounces Egg Whites
  • 1/2 cup Sugar, Divided
  • 3 Egg Yolks
  • 1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 3/4 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
Directions

For Lady Fingers:

Start by making the ladyfingers if you're using the homemade ones. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside until needed.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, whisk the egg whites until they begin to foam. Slowly add 1/4 of the sugar and continue whisking until stiff peaks form. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar. Mix in the vanilla.

In a small bowl, combine the flour and baking powder and then add it to the whipped egg whites. With a spatula, carefully fold the flour mixture into the egg whites until fully incorporated. Transfer the batter to a piping bag fitted with a round top. Pipe 2 1/2 inch bars, leaving at least 1 inch between each bar, onto the prepared baking sheets.

Bake the ladyfingers until they have puffed and begin to turn a light golden brown, about 7 minutes. Allow the ladyfingers to sit on the baking sheet for one minute and then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

For the Tiramisu:

To assemble the Tiramisu, stir together the mascarpone cheese, sugar, and 2 tablespoons of coffee.

Place the remaining coffee in a shallow dish and soak the ladyfingers for 10 seconds. Be careful not to soak the ladyfingers for too long, you don’t want them to fall apart.

Place 2 ladyfingers in the bottom of each jar. Top with a dollop of the mascarpone mixture. Continue layering as follows: 2 ladyfingers, a sprinkle of shaved chocolate, remaining dollop of mascarpone mixture, remaining 2 ladyfingers, 1/4 cup of whipped cream, and top with the remaining shaved chocolate.

Enjoy your Tiramisu immediately or place in the refrigerator to enjoy later. These last up to 5 days, when sealed with the cap, in the refrigerator.

Makes:

4 16-ounce/pint jars
