Must-Drink Kentucky Derby Cocktails

The quintessential cocktail of the Kentucky Derby is the Mint Julep. The strong drink made with bourbon, simple syrup and mint is a delicious concoction to enjoy during the big race, but if you're not a bourbon drinker, there are several other seasonal libations to enjoy.

The Kentucky Derby is held in Louisville, Ky. every year, so sipping on some cocktails that have a Southern flair is a must. A sweet beverage that's not too strong is the classic Arnold Palmer. This iced tea and lemonade half-and-half can be made with sweet tea vodka cut with lemonade, or regular iced tea and lemonade, with a splash of plain vodka. Our version is a skinny cocktail, which is perfect for warmer weather.

Another tasty lemonade drink is our Skinny Sparkling Cucumber Lemonade. This crisp cocktail is made with Skinnygirl Cucumber Vodka and our homemade low-calorie sparkling lemonade for a delicious spring drink.

Those people lucky enough to attend the Kentucky Derby and have box seats know it's a pretty classy and elegant affair. In honor of the fancy floppy hats and high-end bow ties, sip on some champagne like the stars do. This Hibiscus Ginger Champagne Cocktail is fresh and floral, and looks so nice when served in a clear champagne flute.

For another spring and fruity champagne drink, try our Vodka Peach Bellini. The champagne mixed with peach vodka is a strong beverage, but tasty enough to enjoy. And of course, if you still want to make a Mint Julep for derby, you have to check out our Authentic Mint Julep recipe and tutorial. A skilled NYC mixologist shows us the proper way to mix up a julep for the big race.

Now that you know what you're going to enjoy during the big races, it's time to pick out a floppy hat and cook up some complementing food recipes.
