Lovely Limoncello Cocktail Party

Who knew that some homemade hooch could be the basis of an entire summer cocktail party? Once you have a taste of some authentic, DIY limoncello, you'll understand why.

The lemon liqueur is the closest thing to the nectar of the gods, in my humble opinion. It's perfect on its own, or can easily be mixed into a summery cocktail. It's bright, colorful and complements sweets and decor very nicely. Basically, it's the ideal theme for a summer cocktail party, which is exactly what I did.

I started by making my own Homemade Limoncello. Of course, you can always buy some at your local liquor store, but what's the fun in that? If you have about four weeks and some strong strong vodka, you can have your own delicious limoncello.

When that's all good to go, come up with a signature cocktail to serve. Give guests the option of sipping limoncello on its own (which is why I served it in some cute little shot glasses), but it could be too strong for some people to sip on by itself. I chose a Limoncello Mint Champagne Cocktail to serve, since it looked so nice in a sugar-rimmed champagne flute.

I lined a lucite tray with some festive cardstock made from our Free Citrus and Chevron Party Printables.  I set the cocktails and limoncello shots out on top of colorful confetti and paper cutouts from our printable set, which added fun pops of color to the serving display. Add some fun and festive straws and garnishes, so guests can customize their drinks. I went with some black striped straws and a handful of mint.

Since limoncello is used as an after-dinner beverage, I think of it as something I enjoy with sweets. To complement the liqueur, I made some Lemon Sugar Cookies with Pink Sprinkles. The recipe basically just adds lemon juice and lemon zest to traditional sugar cookie dough. I added pink sprinkles for a fun pop of color.

Finally, the lemon decor could not have been easier. I picked up this beautiful summery flower bouquet, and added some lemon slices to the vase. For more bursts of citrus, I placed some lemons and fresh mint leaves in a square glass vase. Lemons look great displayed in glass jars and vases, serving bowls and even on top of trays. Play around with the citrus fruit for some fun decor ideas!

So if you're planning on throwing a cocktail party this summer, make it a limoncello theme. And don't forget to send out your invite
