Take it Outside: Tips for Throwing the Perfect Summer Outdoor Movie Night

Balmy summer nights cry out for a fun family activity that lets you be out under the stars. A movie night in the back yard with family and friends couldn’t be a more idyllic way to spend and evening! That’s just what we did to kick off summertime. In this party, there are many small details that went into making the event so much fun, but you can pick and choose which ones are right for your personal soiree.

Popcorn Bar. Set on top of an old painted desk, with a painted door for a lighted backdrop, the popcorn bar let our guests mix up their own popcorn flavors and put them in custom popcorn boxes and popcorn bags before they sat back and took in the show. A few ropes of Twizzlers, some movie candy and a batch of caramel popcorn cupcakes make the bar complete.

Pick Your Own Drink (Yes, Even Booze!): Not many of us have soda fountains available to pour fresh fizzy drinks, so we do the next best think. Pick up some glass bottled sodas to put in a large ice bucket for guests to pick up. You can also include some more adult-type beverages with a few mason jar cocktails.

Drive-In Movie Theater: Create your own movie screen with a few basic hardware store materials from this tutorial, and you’ll be ready to project your movie in the back yard. Add a few battery-operated tealights around the perimeter as glowing aisle runners for a little ambiance. To make it even more fun for the kids, with a few large moving boxes you can create little cars for them to sit in while they watch the movie. They’ll love it!

Movie Theater Party Favors: When the guests are ready to go, don’t forget the favors! Hand out movie theater candy boxes to thank everyone for coming to the show.
