Tick, Tock Theme: New Year's Party Ideas

Tick, Tock! Count down to the New Year with some of these themed party ideas! We invited friends and family to join us for a game night as we awaited the stroke of midnight and toasted a brand new year.

Game tables were set up throughout allowing party-goers to move  from table-to-table to challenge others in some of our favorite games. We had fun games and puzzles for the little ones as well.

We borrowed the olive, cream and black colors from Pear Tree's Tick Tock invitation and created a centerpiece with an old family clock.

A sparkly olive green bow tied around the clock earned it center stage on our table.

We added a bit more sparkle with some shiny ornaments. Christmas ornaments are a great way to add sparkle and shine to a table.

Tall black candle holders elevated our bouquets of white roses to just the right eye level. We filled the vases with clear glass marbles for a little New Year's Eve sparkle! Candle holders make great little pedestals for vases, bowls of goodies, even cupcakes.

A square black vase full of party horns and noisemakers gave our table a New Year's Eve party look that said, "Celebrate, and make some noise!" The horns were readily available for use when the clock struck twelve. We rested one of our extra invitations in front to enhance the Tick, Tock theme.

We celebrated an anniversary on this evening as well so we honored the couple with a copy of their engagement photo in a cute clock frame to match our party's look. It's always so great when you can incorporate photos and other personalized embellishments into your decor scheme!

Another black vase was filled with fortune cookies.

Just after the stroke of midnight, when the noise died down, each guest chose a cookie and read their fortune out loud to the group.

We had fun mixing and matching patterns and colors on our table top. Floral napkins, paisley printed plates, polka dots and stripes complimented each other and gave our table a look of excitement and anticipation as we prepared to welcome in a new year.

Trays of appetizers were placed on the table for guests to help themselves between games. Along with the favorite veggies, cheese, chips and dips, we served some warm tomato soup shooters, breadsticks with marinara sauce and for dessert, some mint ice cream bon bons.

For a little of the unexpected, consider using  vases or pots on your table. Here a celery-green decorative pot served as the perfect container for our warm breadsticks. A square glass vase held the warm marinara sauce for dipping.

A big part of turning the ordinary into a party is in the presentation of the food.  Homemade cream of tomato soup is served in little shot glasses on a silver tray.  We garnished ours by balancing a miniature grilled ham and cheese sandwich across the top of the glass with a festive party pick.

Candles aren't just for birthdays! We poked candles in our chocolate mint bonbons to give our presentation a little more "wow!"

Pop-top cans that once held fruit and vegetables were reused to make festive favors for the New Year's Eve Party. We decorated the cans with glitter paper and ribbon and then filled them with little chocolate treats.
