DIY Santa's Workshop Wrapping Paper

As a child, I figured out rather quickly that Santa had the same wrapping paper as my mother, and when our first child was born, I set about banishing this link by creating a unique Santa wrap.

To keep the magic of gifts from Santa alive, our family tradition is to create wrapping paper unique to Santa’s workshop made from craft paper, jute rope and stamped reindeer tracks, making spotting gifts form Santa easy and a pure delight on Christmas morning.

Supplies
  • A potato cut in half
  • A pairing knife for carving the potato
  • Brown stamping ink
  • Craft paper
  • Jute rope
  • Tape
Directions

Step 1: Wrap each gift with crafting paper and secure with a length of jute rope.

Step 2: Cut a potato in half at its longest point. Cut a cross into the potato, one that leaves a longer end and a shorter end, and then carve a valley into the cross marks.

Step 3: Gently round the edges at the top where needed to create a rounded hoof print.

Step 4: Cut the shorter end of the cross to create two small squares that act as the bottom point of the hoof. (Note: If the potato is damp, wipe off the excess water before placing on your ink-pad and stamping hoof prints across the paper).

Step 5: For added effect, crinkle the paper and sprinkle with icing sugar.
