Easy Christmas Party Hat Craft

Well, our birthday party hats have been sitting in our closet for about three years now. Instead of simply tossing them in the garbage though, we decided to repurpose these long-forgotten party hats and make them Christmas worthy.

This is a great idea using these hats for a fun and festive Christmas craft idea. If you've got some hats hanging around this is a fun and easy Christmas craft to do on your own or with the kids. We love how versatile the designs are - they can serve as simple decorations, place cards or festive holiday hats. And we also love using up those craft box scraps we have lying around!

Check out the video here, then keep scrolling down for the complete list of supplies and directions.

  • For all 3 designs
  • Party Hat
  • Paint Brush
  • Glue Gun
  • Newspaper

  • For Christmas Tree
  • Stickers (we used flat round ones to mimic ornaments and gold stars for lights)
  • Glittered Star Embellishment
  • Green Paint

  • For Rudolph
  • Metallic Brown Paint
  • Red Pompom

  • For Santa Hat
  • Red Paint
  • White Cotton Balls

Step 1: Paint over your party hat completely. Depending on the design underneath you may need to apply several coats of paint. Allow to dry.

Step 2: Decorate. For the Christmas tree, we placed stickers around the entire hat. Then, we glued a star to the top. If you want to recreate the Santa hat design, simply glue cotton balls along the rim of the hat and top the point with one. Rudolph's inspired design is even easier - top with a red pom pom.

Step 3: If using as place cards, write out the names of guests.
